Biography

Alana Scott (soprano) graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium in 2002 with a Bachelor of Music in Performance and in 2004 from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Drama and Journalism.

 

Alana has achieved success in the Queensland Vocal Competition and the Sydney Performing Arts Challenge, where she reached the finals of the Dame Joan Sutherland Society of Sydney Scholarship.

 

Performances have included Opera Queensland's production of Sweeney Todd directed by Gale Edwards, the Bangalow Music Festival and singing the national anthems for the 2004 and 2005 Australian Test Cricket Series for Cricket Australia.

 

Alana co-founded and performed with contemporary classical chamber ensemble Collusion for three years and sings on the recording ‘In Depth’ distributed by Move Records.

 

Other performances have included Opera on Kings Beach, the Ballina RivaFest and the 4MBS classic FM production ‘Shakespeare Spoken and Sung’ as part of the 2006 World Shakespeare Congress.

 

In February 2008, Alana made her debut as a flying singer as part of C!RCA  the Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus’s ‘Summerbash 2’ performance.

 

Further engagements for 2008 included performing at Parliament House for Queensland Week celebrations, a Miss Saigon show at Brisbane City Hall and playing The Goldfish Girl in the world premiere of Eugene Gilfedder’s ‘The Fiveways’ for Brisbane Festival 2008.

 

In 2009, Alana launched her debut solo album Un Palette de Chant with accompanist Crystal Lugge, featuring French and German art songs, operatic arias, folk songs, musical theatre and jazz as well as her own film-inspired piano compositions.

 

In 2011, Alana completed the Ghillian Sullivan Operatic Performance Summer School.

 

Performance highlights in 2012 included performing at a private function for Olivia Newton-John at Gaia Retreat and being invited to perform as the guest artist at the Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital Autumn Garden Party at Toorak and Spring Fashion Luncheon at Crown Casino, hosted by Lillian Frank.

 

Alana also appears as a younger version of Australian singer/songwriter Paul Kelly’s opera-singer grandmother in Paul Kelly Stories of Me:  the movie, directed by AFI award-winning director Ian Darling, which premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in August 2012.

 

Alana regularly performs as a soloist in Melbourne, on the Gold Coast, in Brisbane and nationally for corporate events and concerts. She also works as a voice teacher.
